Unlike some copper alloys that have a fixed chemical composition, the elemental constituents of brass alloy could change on the basis of the requirement of its properties. This is why a substitutional alloy is preferred by several Brass Flanges Suppliers. Similar to copper alloys, brass has a tendency to get tarnished. Prevention of tarnish is possible by the application of a thin layer of oil on the outer surface of the component. Another method to prevent the component from getting tarnished is that any Brass Flanges manufacturer in India would use a coating of lacquer. The lacquer coating used on the flange would usually be clear. Tarnishing aside, there are several benefits to using brass.
The Brass Companion Flange is resistant to corrosion, especially in marine environments. In seawater, where the percentage of sodium chloride is saturated at 3.5%, ordinary steel alloys are prone to decay. Yet, the performance of Brass Pipe Flanges in marine environments is rated as good, especially to galvanic corrosion. Galvanic corrosion is a common issue in oil rigs and in any component that has been installed in seawater. Unlike some alloys, the inclusion of copper in its alloy proves to be an asset, because the alloy hinders the growth of bacteria. Therefore, its use as a Brass Closet Flange is ideal. In fact, the corrosion resistance properties of brass are considered to be superior in comparison to copper. The addition of zinc, which by itself has excellent resistance to corrosion improves this property in the Brass Threaded Flange. Being a substitutional alloy, the content of zinc can vary. In applications that require higher ductility, the content of zinc needs to be less. However, for a tougher Brass Pipe Floor Flange, the level of zinc in its chemical composition needs to be significantly higher.
